Arts Council England’s new National portfolio funding framework

The way Arts Council England funds the arts and cultural sector is facing a massive overhaul. From March 31 2012, regularly funded organisations will be no more. ACE is instead introducing the National portfolio funding framework.

Due to a 29.6% cut to it’s budget over the next four years, Arts Council England has told that funding is limited with competition sure to be fierce. They are warning that there will be good applications that they will not be able to fund and are urging every organisation to have a back up plan.

Another change relates to Grants for the Arts. The grants will still be available, however, those in the national portfolio are not able to apply for any Grants for the Arts funding.

Organisations can begin submitting their applications immediately and are encouraged to do so as the submission deadline is 10.00am, Monday 24 January 2011.

The Arts Council England website tells that this new funding approach arises out of a major consultation - with all those involved or interested in the arts - around the Arts Council's 10-year strategic framework, Achieving great art for everyone.
