Making museum cafes more accessible for families

What’s on today’s menu?

cupcakeA popular issue for families is a café that works to the same family friendly values as the rest of the museum or gallery. To meet the needs of families, Kids in Museums runs the café project: working with families and museums to draw up guidelines on museum cafés for museums and galleries that work for everyone – families, museums and venues.

Various museums have told that they are looking for ways to improve their catering provision in order to become more welcoming of families and encourage new visitors. Kids in Museums also know that many museums are interested in new ways of making use of catering provision to generate more income. Many museums don’t have a café, but told that they would consider looking for cultural and commercial links with an external café around the corner.

Kids in Museums are hungry for your input. Their tasty new project starts with consulting as many museums as possible to help shape museum café guidelines. Your input will help understand how museums currently make use of their cafés, what they offer in their cafés, and why.

Kids in Museums would be really grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete the short survey to share your views.
